Geo-localization of sightings over Puglia, Italy By Edoardo Russo, MUFON Italian National Director

The Italian Center for UFO Studies has completed a significant archival milestone: the first comprehensive geo-localization of an entire regional UAP sighting database. The Puglia region, located in southeastern Italy, now has its complete catalog of historical reports mapped and made publicly accessible online.

The project represents nearly four decades of systematic documentation work by Lello Cassano, whose regional collection has now been digitized and geo-referenced. This effort, overseen by Edoardo Russo, MUFON’s Italian National Director, establishes a methodological template that could be replicated across other Italian regions and potentially serve as a model for international UAP research organizations seeking to organize their historical data in geospatial formats.

The availability of mapped sighting data allows researchers to identify clustering patterns, temporal correlations, and geographic hotspots that might otherwise remain obscured in traditional case files. Such spatial analysis has proven valuable in UAP research for distinguishing between isolated incidents and potential systematic phenomena.

What patterns might emerge when decades of accumulated sighting reports are examined not chronologically, but geographically—and what investigative questions should researchers prioritize when analyzing regional concentration data?
